Club founder dies

The Parramatta Eels will have extra motivation for this weekend's clash against the Warriors with the passing of club founder Colonel Jack Argent.

The Eels wrote in a media release that Argent was "the founder of the Parramatta District Rugby League Club, and the man responsible for the Clubs entry into the NSWRL competition in 1947. In fact, as early as 1935, Colonel Argent was lobbying the NSWRL to include the Parramatta Club into the competition. "

The release quoted Denis Fitzgerald as saying: "To this very day, the Parramatta Leagues Club is still referred to as ‘The House that Jack built’, as his company carried out the construction of the building that opened in 1959. No-one has made a greater contribution to this Club and it is a very sad day for everyone associated with it".
