Backo Jnr keen to impress as an Eel

Parramatta assistant coach Rocket Reddy was instrumental in getting exciting young forward, Daniel Backo, to sign a two-year deal with the Parramatta club.

The Sunday Telegraph confirmed news that Backo had signed with the Eels, reporting the contract was for two years and came after an approach from Reddy at the Queensland Schoolboy Carnival.

"Rocket said he was interested and they have been watching me for the last few weeks. I'm really looking forward to the opportunity and, hopefully, I can improve things in my game and become a first-grader," he said in the report.

Daniel's legendary footballing father, Sam Backo, said he was happy for his son to be at the Parramatta club, rather than with the Broncos.

"They only look after their top 25 and have one good young player and forget about the others . . . I'm certainly happy to have my young bloke out of there. At the end of the day, though, he made his own decision and I know Rocket and the Parramatta club are going to look after him down there."

Backo is 185cm and weighs more than 100kg and can play prop or second row.
