Afamasaga named rookie of the year
Jack Afamasaga has been named the Eels rookie of the year, having played nine first grade games in 2004.
Afamasaga is 20 and joined the club last year from Wellington, New Zealand.
“This is a great honour and something that has taken me by surprise. You only have to look at some of the previous winners to realise what a special award it is,” Afamasaga was quoted as saying in the media release.
Despite the depth of talent in the Parramatta squad, 2004 wasn't a year where a young player was really able to establish himself in the Eels NRL squad. Luke O'Dwyer was looking good earlier in the year, but an injury all but ended his season, while Ben Smith and Feleti Mateo made late season debuts in the NRL.
